The project aims at producing of an ardered large-insert banana B-genome library. The library will be cloned in pECBACl vector. The final genomic library will be combination of three partial libraries constructed using various restriction enzymes. whichshould increase the real genome coverage. We will attempt in obtaining 30 000 - 35 000 clones with expected average insert size of 100 130 kb, which will represent wix equivalents to haploid genome. The library will be used for cytogenetic mapping with the aim to obtain cytogenetic markers to distinguish individual chromosomes and to saturate cytogenetic maps of banana. The acqured markers will permit analysis of chromosome evolution within the genus Musa for the first time. Integration of banana genetic and physical maps will be another achievement of the project. It is expected that the library wil be used intensively in other projects within the framework of international cooperation.
